Programme Development

This figure illustrates all steps in the process of evaluating and selecting the submitted session and workshop proposals for the ICRS 2020 scientific programme. In the first step, the Quality Check, all submitted proposals were randomly assigned to and evaluated by a total of 33 reviewers from the Organising Committee and ICRS leadership, including ICRS presidents, officers, council members, and chairs of sub-committees & chapters. The reviewers provided grades and comments online.
At the Organising Committee Retreat in Bremen in March 2019, the results of the Quality Check (grades and comments) were discussed in detail and proposals for sessions and workshops were selected based on scientific quality. This led to the rejection of a few proposals that had received weak ratings and/or rejection comments. The compilation of sessions and workshops resulting from the retreat was sent to ICRS leadership for agreement.
This final and all previous steps of proposal evaluation and selection were performed in “blind mode”, meaning that the identity (i.e. name, gender, affiliation, origin, career stage etc.) of the submitting chairs were not visible at any time during the entire process. Only the proposal title and the abstract were circulated. The identity of chairs of successful submissions will remain confidential at least until the decision letters are sent (30 April 2019).
